Celebrate MLK Day with the American Red Cross

This January, the Red Cross of Idaho launches the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service across the region. During the week of Jan. 17, they encourage everyone to take part in a volunteer activity or event that fits their interests and passions. Below are a few ideas.
  • BE RED CROSS READY: Everyone knows the Red Cross helps people during emergencies. But you may not know that it’s also part of their mission to help you help yourself. Becoming “Red Cross Ready” for an emergency means following our simple steps in advance to ensure you can weather a crisis safely and comfortably. Being prepared may not prevent a disaster, but it will give you the confidence to meet the challenge.  Tune in to this 6 p.m. MST Be Red Cross Ready presentation on Jan. 17 to learn more.
  • DONATE LIFESAVING BLOOD: Every two seconds someone in this country needs lifesaving blood. You can be that lifeline and help keep hospital shelves stocked by raising your hand, rolling up your sleeve and coming out to donate.
      • Find a blood drive near you and schedule an appointment by visiting RedCrossBlood.org and entering your zip code or calling 800-RED-CROSS
      • A donation takes less than an hour and can potentially save up to three lives.
